  • a white polo shirt with school logo
  • Full-length, tailored trousers, or skirt of length avoiding extremes, in black (no 'jean' style trousers, leggings or leisurewear).
  • tights (natural or black), or socks (dark)
  • plain black footwear

and choose a hairstyle which is one of one natural colour and not extreme or containing shaved words or logos. Long hair must be tied back for practical activities.

In addition, students may also wear:

  • navy blue sweatshirt with school logo
  • navy blue zip-up cardigan with school logo
  • navy blue fleece with school logo
  • jewellery provided it is discreet, safe and inexpensive
  • make-up and nail varnish provided it is discreet
  • one outer coat when outside the school buildings. (A navy blue rain coat with school logo is available)

Some interpretations to help parents and students

  • If anything is worn over the logo'd polo shirt, then it must be one of our logo'd tops. There is no alternative to these navy blue logo'd tops which are only available from the school.
  • Any items of clothing worn under the polo shirt must not be visible beyond the collar or sleeves of the polo shirt - if students are cold they should wear a navy blue top from the uniform range
  • If jewellery is worn it must be removed for PE and other activities in Science and Technology where any jewellery presents a safety hazard. The school cannot be liable for lost jewellery.
  • Issues around body-piercing fall into the same category as jewellery - that it must be discreet. small ear studs, or nose studs, are likely to be discreet. Under no conditions can we see eye-brow piercing or nose-rings as being "discreet". If navels are pierced, we would not normally notice as they are "covered", but for PE and Games there may still be a need for removal for health and safety reasons. When body piercing is carried out there is often a requirement that the piercing remains in for several weeks initially. Please make certain before allowing any piercing to take place that this initial period does not fall in school time as all indiscreet piercings will need to be removed for school.
  • In respect of jewellery, make up and hair, the school's decision on "extreme" and "discreet" is final.
  • Footwear may include trainers provided they are plain black - this does not include "mainly" black - they must be "all" black.
  • School fleeces, sweatshirts etc count as "indoor" wear and may be worn in classes.

Other notes

  • Students in Y12 and 13 must be appropriately dressed for a working environment. Further guidelines are issued separately. As post 16 students are not in uniform, they are required to wear identification badges when on school site, in line with all other non-uniformed adults.
  • Clothing worn for class may NOT be worn for PE and vice-versa.
  • If parents are concerned about whether a particular item/style is suitable they should contact Student Services for advice before buying or sending the child to school.
  • Students are responsible for their own clothing and are advised to have it "named".

For PE or Games lessons Students must wear:

  • a red polo shirt with school logo
  • black shorts
  • black knee length socks
  • suitable trainers, studded footwear or boots as appropriate to the relevant activities

In addition, students may wear:

  • a red rugby shirt with school logo as an alternative to the red polo shirt or in addition to the polo shirt
  • black tracksuit trousers in addition or as an alternative to the black shorts
